Overview

How refunds work on PGTribes

We act as a facilitator between tenants and PG owners. Most refunds are governed by the booking owner's cancellation policy, which is visible on every property page before you confirm a booking. The rules below apply across the Platform.

Tenants

Booking cancellations

  • Within 24 hours of payment: 100% refund, no questions asked.
  • After 24 hours, before move-in: refund is governed by the owner's published cancellation policy on the property page.
  • After move-in: rent already paid for the occupied period is non-refundable; unused rent is refunded as per the rental agreement.
  • Security deposit: refundable in full within 7 working days after move-out inspection, less any agreed deductions for damages or unpaid dues.
  • Payment gateway charges (if any) are non-refundable and deducted from the refund amount.

Owners

Subscription refunds

  • Trial plan: free, no payment, no refund needed.
  • Within 7 days of first subscription purchase: full refund if no lead has been delivered and no platform feature has been used materially.
  • After 7 days or active use: subscription fees are non-refundable. You may cancel renewal at any time.
  • Plan upgrades: charged pro-rata; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle without refund.
  • Account suspension for policy violation forfeits any unused subscription balance.

Timelines

When you'll see the money back

All refunds are processed to the original payment method used for the transaction.

Approval — within 48 hours

Once your refund request is received, our team reviews and approves eligible refunds within 2 business days.

UPI / Wallets — 1–3 days

Refunds to UPI, Paytm, PhonePe and similar wallets typically reflect in your account within 1 to 3 business days.

Cards / Net-banking — 5–7 days

Credit card and net-banking refunds may take up to 7 business days depending on your issuing bank.

Important

What is not refundable

Used services & rent

Rent already paid for an occupied period, food charges already consumed, laundry slots already used, and any other services delivered are non-refundable.

Damage & dues

Any documented damage to the property, unpaid utility bills, or pending rent will be deducted from refundable deposits as per the rental agreement.

Policy breaches

Refunds may be denied where a tenant or owner is found to have violated these terms, the rental agreement, or applicable law.

Process

How to request a refund

Most refund requests can be raised directly from your dashboard. For anything else, our support team is one message away.

  1. Step 1

    Log in to your dashboard

    Tenants: open the booking under Tenant → Rent. Owners: open Owner → Subscription. Find the transaction you want refunded.

  2. Step 2

    Raise a support ticket

    Head to Help & Support and select the relevant topic. Attach screenshots, booking ID, and a short description of the reason.

  3. Step 3

    Verification & approval

    Our team reviews your request, coordinates with the owner (where applicable), and approves eligible refunds within 2 business days.

  4. Step 4

    Refund credited

    The approved amount is refunded to your original payment method. You'll receive a confirmation email and an in-app notification.

FAQ

Refund questions, answered

I paid by mistake — can I get a full refund?

Yes — any payment cancelled within 24 hours is refunded in full, no questions asked. Raise a ticket from your dashboard or write to hello@pgtribes.com.

My security deposit hasn't been refunded yet. What do I do?

Security deposit refunds happen within 7 working days of the move-out inspection. If it's been longer, raise a support ticket and we'll coordinate with the owner on your behalf.

I'm an owner — can I cancel my subscription mid-month?

You can disable auto-renewal at any time from Owner → Subscription. The current billing cycle remains active until the end date — no partial refund is issued after 7 days of purchase or once the platform has been used materially.

The owner won't refund my deposit. Can PGTribes help?

Yes. Raise a dispute through the support ticket flow. Our team will mediate, review the rental agreement and inspection notes, and help reach a fair resolution.

Are payment gateway charges refunded?

Most refunds include the full amount paid. However, in rare cases where the gateway charges a non-recoverable fee, it may be deducted from the refund. We'll flag this transparently before processing.

How will I know my refund has been processed?

You'll get an email and an in-app notification with the refund reference ID. You can also track the status under Dashboard → Payments & Receipts.
